Privacy policy
Effective 6 November 2026
The short version. Voxima is a social app for the people around you. It has no accounts and no servers of ours, so your voice, your name, your location and your profile are never sent to us. Voxima talks directly to the phones around you, and shares with them your voice, your name, your position, your status and the part of your profile you have made public. Contact details go only to someone you agree to swap with. This page explains exactly what and when.
Who we are
Voxima is made by Capralis, Inc. ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Voxima app for iPhone and this website, voxima.io. The rules for using Voxima are in the terms of use.
What we collect from the app
Nothing. The app does not send us your voice, your name, your location, your profile, your contacts, an identifier for your phone, or anything about how you use it. There is no sign-up, no advertising and no analytics in the app.
What your phone shares with phones nearby
Voxima works by talking directly to other phones that are running Voxima and are within range. For that to work, your phone sends them the following.
- Your voice, while your microphone is on and you are speaking. It is played as it arrives and is not recorded or stored by the app.
- The name you chose, so people can see who is talking.
- Your position, about once a second, if you allowed location access. Other phones use it to work out how far away you are, which sets how loud you sound, and which direction you are in, which sets where your voice comes from in their headphones. Your phone also measures distance to nearby phones directly, using Bluetooth signal strength and, on phones that have it, ultra-wideband.
- Your public card, every few seconds. This is your status line and the part of your profile you have set to "Public". It is sent so that other people, and the agents acting for them, can work out whether you two have a reason to talk. See "Your profile and your agent" below.
- Messages between agents. When your agent and someone else's find a match, they exchange a few short messages. Your agent is only given your public card to speak from, so these messages contain nothing your card doesn't.
- Requests to swap contact details, and, if you both agree, the details themselves. See "Contact details" below.
- A random number made when you installed the app. It lets someone who blocked you keep you blocked. It is not linked to your name, your Apple ID or anything else about you, and deleting and reinstalling the app replaces it.
In an open group
Anyone within range who is running Voxima in open mode receives all of the above, whether or not you can see them. It is not encrypted. Treat open mode like speaking out loud in a public place.
In a private group
All of the above is encrypted with a key made from your group code, and only phones that have the same code can read it. Anyone who has the code can listen, so share it only with people you trust.
Phones that pass voices along
To reach further, Voxima phones pass each other's messages along, up to a few phones in a row. A phone that is not in your private group can pass your messages along but cannot read them. In open mode, a phone passing your voice or your public card along can also read it.
What we can't control
Voxima does not record voices, but we cannot stop a person who hears you from recording what they hear, or from using a modified version of the app. Muting or blocking someone stops you hearing them and stops your agent dealing with theirs. It does not stop them hearing you or receiving your public card.
Phones that receive your public card keep a copy, as described below. Taking something off your card stops it being sent again, but cannot remove copies that other phones already have.
If you report someone
The Report button in the app starts an email to us from your own email account. It is filled in with the name, the public card and the app's ID number for the person you are reporting, and you add what happened. We receive it only if you send it, and we use it to look into the report.
What is filtered
Names and public cards are checked on the phone against a list of abusive words, both before they are sent and when they arrive. Text that fails the check is not shown. The check runs on your phone and nothing is sent to us.
What stays on your phone
Your name, your status, your group code, your block list, your settings, your profile, your contact details, and the list of people your agent has met (with their cards, what your agents said to each other, and any contact details they shared with you) are stored on your phone. They are removed when you delete the app. They may be included in your own iPhone backups, which Apple handles under its privacy policy.
Your profile and your agent
The profile is optional. It holds what you choose to tell Voxima about yourself: things you type, text you paste, files you import, and answers you give in "Talk it through". It is stored on your phone. Each item has a setting that decides how far it travels.
- Public: on my card. The item is on your public card, which your phone sends to every Voxima phone in range, as described above. In open mode that is anyone nearby, and it is not encrypted. In a private group it is encrypted for the group.
- My agent can use it. The item is not sent to other phones. Your agent takes it into account when it judges other people's cards. If you set up a cloud agent, it is sent to that service (see below).
- Only me. The item never leaves your phone.
What you type, or say in "Talk it through", about your work, what you offer, what you are looking for and what you enjoy starts as public, because that is what a card is for. Everything else, and everything you import from a file or paste in bulk, starts as "My agent can use it". You can change any item at any time, and "Your public card" in the app shows exactly what is being sent.
What your agent does
Your agent is the part of the app that reads the public cards of people in range and works out whether you and they have a reason to talk. It keeps a list on your phone of the people it has met: their name, their public card, when you were in range, and what it concluded. Other people's phones keep the same about you. You can delete entries from your list, and deleting the app deletes the list.
Conversations between agents
After a match, your agent and the other person's agent may exchange up to six short messages to find out more. Your agent speaks only from your public card. It is not shown the items you have set to "My agent can use it" while it is talking, so it cannot repeat them. Both phones keep the conversation, so that each of you can read it. In open mode these messages are not encrypted, like the card itself.
Contact details
You can give Voxima contact details, such as an email address or phone number. They are stored on your phone and are never on your card. They are sent to another person only when you both agree to swap, and they travel encrypted, so that the phones passing them along and anyone else nearby cannot read them. Once sent, the other person's phone keeps them, and they cannot be taken back.
One limit: Voxima cannot yet prove that a card belongs to the person named on it. Someone using a modified version of the app could pose as another person. Swap details only with people you are satisfied are who they say they are.
Hosts
A venue or event can run Voxima as a host. A host's phone receives your public card like any other phone in range. Its agent compares the public cards of the people there and, when two of them have a reason to talk, tells each about the other. A host may use an AI service of its choice to do this, in which case your public card is sent to that service. Hosts are not verified by us: anyone can switch host mode on.
Notifications
Notifications about matches, introductions and contact swaps are created on your phone by the app. They are not sent through us or through any notification service.
Where your agent does its thinking
- On your phone. By default the agent uses simple word matching and, on iPhones with Apple Intelligence, the language model that is built into the phone. Both run on your phone. "Talk it through" uses the same built-in model to pick out what to remember from your answers.
- A cloud agent, if you set one up. You can point the app at an AI service of your choice, such as OpenRouter or an agent you host yourself. If you do, then each time your agent judges someone the app sends that service your profile (everything except "Only me" items) and the other person's public card. That service handles the data under its own terms and privacy policy, not this one. We do not run it, and we never see what is sent. Your key for the service is stored in your phone's keychain.
If someone near you has set up a cloud agent, your public card is sent to the service they chose when their agent judges it.
Which way you are facing
To play voices from the right direction in headphones, Voxima uses your phone's compass and motion sensors to estimate which way you are facing. That estimate is worked out on your phone and is not sent to anyone.
Permissions the app asks for
- Microphone: to send your voice to people nearby.
- Local network: to find and connect to nearby phones.
- Bluetooth and Nearby Interaction: to estimate how far away nearby phones are.
- Location: to share your position with nearby phones, as described above, and to read the compass.
You can change any of these in the iPhone's Settings. Voxima needs the microphone and local network to work at all. Without the others, distances are less accurate.
The demo
The demo inside the app uses pretend people. Their voices are computer-generated recordings that ship with the app. The demo does not use your microphone or connect to anyone.
Apple
If you chose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may give us crash reports and general usage figures for Voxima. These do not include your voice, your name or your location. If you install a test version through TestFlight, Apple shares your tester details with us as described in TestFlight.
This website
This site does not use cookies, analytics or advertising. Like most websites, the company that hosts it (Netlify) keeps standard server logs, which include the IP address of visitors.
Group invitation links put the group code after a # in the address. That part of an address is read by your browser and the Voxima app, and is not sent to the website or its host.
Children
Voxima is for people aged 17 and over, as the terms of use say. It is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
