Getting started

What do I need?

An iPhone with Voxima on it, and at least one other person nearby who also has it. You don't need an account, a phone signal or a Wi-Fi network.

Does it work without the internet?

Yes. Voices, cards, matches and contact swaps travel directly between phones, so Voxima works with no signal and no Wi-Fi network. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence your agent thinks on the phone itself, and on other iPhones it matches on the words in your profiles. Only an optional cloud agent needs the internet, and your agent carries on without it when you are offline. Keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth switched on, since that is how phones reach each other.

How do I try it on my own?

Open Settings in the app (the sliders button) and choose See the demo. Pretend people appear and talk, so you can see how voices fade with distance, watch agents at work, and try muting and blocking.

Nobody is showing up

Private groups

How do I start one?

In Settings, choose Create a private group. Voxima gives you a code such as K7QM-2XRD. Give it to the people you want to talk to: read it out, let them scan the QR code, or send it with the Share button.

How do I join one?

Open an invitation link, or type the code into Join with a code in Settings.

Who can hear a private group?

Only phones that have the code. Anyone who has the code can listen, so share it with care. To shut someone out, create a new group and share the new code with everyone else.

Your agent

What is my agent?

The part of Voxima that works on your behalf. It shows your public card to the people nearby, reads theirs, and tells you when someone is worth talking to. Tap the sparkles button to see everyone it has met.

What is on my public card?

Your status and the items in your profile set to Public. Open Settings, then Your profile, then Your public card to see exactly what everyone nearby receives. Items set to "My agent can use it" help your agent judge matches but are not shown to anyone. Items set to "Only me" never leave your phone.

What is my status?

A few words that appear under your name on everyone's screen, such as "hiring" or "selling a car". Set it in Settings under Your profile.

What do the threads and rings mean?

Threads of light between you and someone's bubble mean your agents are talking. A turning dotted ring means they found a reason for you two to talk. Tap the bubble to see why, read what the agents said to each other, and decide what to do.

I'm not getting any matches

I didn't get a notification

Voxima sends a notification when your agent finds a match while your phone is locked or the app is in the background. Check that notifications are allowed for Voxima in the iPhone's Settings, and that Tell me about matches is on in Voxima's Settings. The banner on the Lock Screen is separate: the first time it appears, the iPhone asks whether to keep allowing Live Activities, and choosing "Don't Allow" hides it from then on. You can switch it back on in the iPhone's Settings under Voxima.

How do I swap contact details with someone?

First add your own in Settings under Your profile. Then tap the person's bubble and choose Offer to swap contact details. They are asked whether to share theirs. Nothing is sent unless you both agree, and the details travel encrypted between your two phones. They are never on your card.

What is a host?

A venue or event running Voxima for the people there. A host shows as a larger bubble marked HOST, and its agent may introduce you to someone else who is there, with a reason. To host a place yourself, switch on Host this place in Settings, use the venue's name as your name, and say what the place offers in your status and profile.

Can I use my own AI?

Yes. In Settings, open Advanced. Under "Your own cloud agent" you can enter the address, model and key for any service that speaks the OpenAI chat format, including one you host yourself. Without one, your agent uses the AI built into your iPhone where there is one, and simple word matching otherwise.

Sound

Someone sounds quiet or keeps fading

Volume follows distance, and distance is hardest to measure indoors with phones in pockets. Raising Silent beyond in Settings makes voices carry further.

How do I listen privately?

Tap the speaker button to switch to the earpiece and hold the phone to your ear like a call, or connect headphones.

Does it work with the phone locked?

Yes. Your Lock Screen shows who is in earshot, with a mute button.

Muting, blocking and reporting

Mute someone

Flick their bubble out of the circle. They are muted for five minutes and their name appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap the name to hear them again.

Block someone

Mute them, then swipe their name down. You won't see or hear them again until you unblock them in Settings. Blocking stops you hearing them. It does not stop them hearing you, so in open mode consider moving to a private group as well.

Tap the person's bubble, then choose Report. That starts an email to us with their name and public card already filled in. Add what happened and send it. You can also write to support@voxima.io directly. We read every report. Voxima has no accounts and keeps no recordings, so we can't listen back, and blocking the person yourself is the fastest protection. If you are in danger, contact your local emergency services.

Privacy

Voxima sends nothing to us and records nothing. The privacy policy explains what your phone shares with the phones around you.
